The actual sown area of cotton in the Yellow River Basin is 456.2 million acres, a year-on-year decrease of 1.441 million acres, a decrease of 24.0%. The actual sown area in most provinces (cities) decreased by more than 10% year-on-year, with Shandong and Hebei experiencing larger decreases, reaching 25.5% and 27.5% respectively.
The actual sown area of cotton areas in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River was 2.610 million acres, a year-on-year decrease of 1.076 million acres, a decrease of 29.2%. In contrast, the year-on-year decrease in Jiangsu Province was smaller, at 12.5%. The actual sowing area in other provinces decreased significantly, with Hubei Province decreasing by 27.4% year-on-year, Anhui Province decreasing by 33.5%, Hunan Province decreasing by 26.2%, and Jiangxi Province decreasing by 27.4%. Third, in the early stages of cotton sowing, some areas in Xinjiang have experienced strong winds and rainfall, with temperatures on the low side. Cotton growers are worried that delaying planting will extend the cotton growing season until the frost period, so they switch to other crops.
2. Mainland
Competition with cotton during the spring sowing period (April-May) Stronger corn and soybean prices are firm, up sharply year-on-year, and at historically high levels. Cotton prices have also increased significantly year-on-year, but are still at historically normal levels. Affected by prices, many mainland cotton farmers switched to corn and soybeans.
