According to feedback from cotton textile enterprises in Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan and other places, since February, not only the long-staple cotton resources in 2021/22 in various warehouses inside and outside Xinjiang have been relatively low, but also the quotations of ginners and traders have been lower, because the quotations of long-staple cotton have been significantly higher. In line with the psychological expectations of textile companies, market inquiries and transactions continued to be deserted.
First, considering that the contradiction between supply and demand of long-staple cotton at home and abroad in 2021/22 is relatively prominent, and the rising purchase price of seed cotton has pushed up the cost of long-staple cotton, most processing companies and traders are waiting for the price to sell; second, it reached a new high in February Value-added orders were lower than expected, and large and medium-sized yarn mills postponed replenishment or bought as needed, mainly to digest old inventory.
Judging from traders’ quotations, the price of 3137 grade Xinjiang long-staple cotton in Zibo, Shandong, Yancheng, Nantong and other places on February 22-23 was 54,800-55,100 yuan/ton (fracture specific strength 41cn/tex, impurity content 2.5-2.6% ), while the fixed price of long-staple cotton imported from Qingdao, Zhangjiagang and other places is stable at 57,800-58,000 yuan/ton, and the price difference between domestic and foreign long-staple cotton has narrowed to 3,500-4,000 yuan/ton.
A medium-sized textile company in Zibo, Shandong Province said that in 2021/22, the proportion of Xinjiang long-staple cotton color grades reaching grade 21 or above is very small (41 and 31 account for the majority), and the fiber length is concentrated at 35-37mm, which is similar to that of imported long-staple cotton. The price difference has dropped to less than 4,000 yuan/ton, so the willingness to make short-term inquiries and purchase domestic long-staple cotton is not strong. It is planned to restock American or Egyptian long-staple cotton according to order demand from March to May to meet export orders.
