In recent days, as the situation in Russia and Ukraine has not eased, following the suspension of Russian operations by shipping giants such as Hapag-Lloyd and ONE, large logistics companies have also joined the ranks of shipping companies and announced the suspension of services to Russia.
Major logistics company suspends Russian operations
Seko Logistics, a well-known North American freight logistics giant, said that the company has “stopped all freight to and from Russia.”
As the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues, some EU countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom have closed their airspace to Russia. In response, Russia also restricted flights from 36 countries including Britain and Germany from flying in Russian airspace. Operators are expected to start cutting services in Russia, sources said.
On March 2, Kuehne + Nagel’s official website issued a notice that all business in Ukraine had been suspended. Most carriers (air, sea, road and rail) have stopped services to and from the Russian Federation, and Kuehne + Nagel is immediately suspending all imports into Russia until further notice, with the exception of pharmaceutical, healthcare and humanitarian supplies.
Kuehne + Nagel said it expects delivery times to be longer due to capacity constraints due to the closure of Russian and Ukrainian air corridors and the aforementioned sanctions.
Follow up on the sailing arrangements of various shipping companies in the Russian-Ukrainian region
Shipping companies such as Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and CMA CGM have also made additional updates to the sailing arrangements in the Russia-Ukraine region. The following is the latest content as of March 3, for reference only:
COSCO
•Our AEM3 route will jump to Odessa port in Ukraine from now on, and stop picking up all Ukrainian import and export cargo;
•The Ukrainian cargo currently in transit will be arranged to be re-unloaded at a suitable location.
MSC
•As of February 24, 2022, new cargo bookings to and from Ukraine have been stopped;
•Container ship MSC JESSENIA R was asked to deviate during the voyage of XA207A and the ship will stop docking in Odessa;
• MSC ships will not call at Ukrainian ports for the time being and we are implementing various other operational changes to other ships in the region to take advantage of our extensive Black Sea port network. In this case we will declare the voyage to end at the last port before Ukraine;
•All cargo bookings to and from Russia will be suspended from March 1, including all routes including the Baltic Sea, Black Sea and the Russian Far East.
Maersk
• Ukraine: No calls to any ports in Ukraine until further notice and will stop accepting orders to and from Ukraine. It is recommended to use air and rail products as alternative services. Currently, cargo to Ukraine is planned to be shipped in Port Said (Egypt) and Kol Unloading in Fes (Turkey);
•Russia: Due to the uncertainty of sanctions (referring to the interception of some Russian cargo), all containers destined for Russia will be stopped at the first loading port or transit port. All new reefer reservations (refrigerated and frozen) to and from St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad are temporarily suspended. For now, the gateway to Novorossiysk and Far Eastern Russia remains open;
•Emergency Risk Surcharge (ERS) imposed on all cargo loaded and unloaded in Novorossiysk, Russia: USD 1,100 per FFE;
At the same time, Maersk provides the following solutions:
1. Free destination change service, but reloading and transfer fees are required;
2. No cancellation fees will be charged for valid reservations to and from Russia and Ukraine;
3. The calculation of detention and demurrage charges for Ukrainian import and export containers and Russian export containers will be temporarily stopped until March 11, 2022, in which the responsibility of D&D lies with Maersk;
4. For goods that are heading to Russia and Ukraine that we are currently unable to deliver due to various restrictions, we will not charge hub warehousing fees.
CMA
•All vessel calls to Ukraine are suspended until further notice, BEX and BSMAR services will skip Odessa, Ukraine, and bookings to and from Odessa are suspended;
•Goods destined for Ukraine will be re-transshipped to the ports of Constanta (Romania), Tripoli (Lebanon) or Piraeus (Greece);
•Announced on March 1 that due to security concerns, all bookings to and from Russia will be suspended until further notice.
HPL
•Ukraine: Bookings stopped, all shipments to Novorossiysk will be unloaded in Istanbul, Turkey;
•Russia: Bookings are suspended and all cargo shipped to Odessa will be unloaded in Constanta, Romania;
•Provide free destination change service and free cancellation service.
ZIM
•All services to the port of Odessa (Ukraine) are suspended, bookings to and from Odessa are suspended;
• From February 24 to March 15, all cargo currently at the Odessa terminal will not be charged demurrage;
•Cargo already shipped to Ukraine will be unloaded at one of the following transshipment ports: Haifa (Israel) and Yarimka (Turkey);
•New bookings to and from all Russian ports will be suspended until further notice.
ONE
•Reservations to and from Odessa, Ukraine, Novorossiysk, Russia, and St. Petersburg, Russia are temporarily suspended until further notice.
