my country’s cumulative export volume of PTA in 2021 increased by 1.728 million tons to 2.575 million tons compared with 2020, with the increase reaching a new high of 204%.
Before 2013, my country’s annual export volume of PTA was still less than 30,000 tons. From 2013 to 2016, with the production capacity of my country’s PTA in the last round of expansion cycle, my country’s PTA quickly expanded overseas markets after meeting its self-sufficiency needs. In 2016, my country’s cumulative PTA export volume reached a high of 695,000 tons. However, since 2016, due to factors such as the commissioning of some new PTA devices in the Middle East with price advantages and the slowdown in the launch of new PTA production capacity in my country, the supply of PTA in the Chinese market has gradually shown a tight balance structure, so the export growth rate has declined.
In 2017, my country’s PTA exports totaled 523,200 tons, showing negative growth compared with 2016. In 2018, several foreign PTA units were affected by force majeure factors, and my country’s PTA export volume rebounded again, with the export volume growing by more than 50% that year. In 2019, my country’s PTA market supply was in a tight balance, with exports significantly reduced year-on-year, but net imports increased. In 2020, the domestic PTA market once again entered a substantial expansion cycle. my country’s PTA export volume increased to 847,000 tons that year, a year-on-year increase of 22.5%.
my country’s PTA export volume hit a new high in 2021, mainly due to the “supply chain crisis” overseas. From the perspective of export destination countries, the top six countries in my country’s PTA export volume last year were slightly different from previous years. On the one hand, the epidemic in India was severe in the second and third quarters of last year, and the local PTA factory operating rate was insufficient. my country’s PTA exports to India increased significantly. On the other hand, with the advancement of my country’s “Belt and Road” initiative and the signing of the “Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement”, my country’s PTA exports to countries along the “Belt and Road”, Africa, and Southeast Asian countries have increased significantly.
Statistics show that in 2021, my country’s PTA export volume to India reached 597,900 tons, an increase of nearly 9 times from the previous year, ranking first, accounting for 23.2% of my country’s total PTA export volume in the same period; PTA export volume to Turkey was 341,700 tons. tons, an increase of 18 times over the previous year, ranking second, accounting for 13.27%; PTA export volume to Oman was 325,300 tons, ranking third.
This year, the signing of my country’s PTA export contract was relatively smooth. At present, judging from the export contracts signed by various PTA manufacturers, the monthly export volume of PTA from some major suppliers has reached 120,000 tons to 150,000 tons. The monthly export volume of PTA from two medium-sized suppliers is expected to be 3 10,000 tons to 40,000 tons, 60,000 tons to 80,000 tons. Nationally, PTA export volume is expected to exceed 200,000 tons per month. In the first quarter, it is expected that my country’s PTA monthly average export volume of 300,000 tons can basically be locked in. Throughout this year, it is expected that my country’s PTA export volume will still achieve high growth.
