It is understood that news came from the Science and Technology Bureau of Nanchang High-tech Industrial Development Zone on October 26 that the key technology research on high-strength polymer nanofiber manufacturing was jointly undertaken by Jiangxi Normal University and Jiangxi Xiancai Nanofiber Technology Co., Ltd. The development and industrialization projects have passed provincial appraisal. The project has achieved a number of original results in key equipment, nanofiber manufacturing processes and testing technologies. The research results have generally reached the international advanced level, and some are leading the world, rewriting the history of traditional polymer nanofibers generally having low strength.

The appraisal expert committee composed of 4 academicians and other experts believes that the results of this independently developed special device and corresponding new process start from the synthesis of raw materials and use proprietary technology to prepare high-strength polymer nanofibers and their nonwoven fabrics , the world’s first leader in realizing large-scale continuous production and technical equipment integration of self-supporting polyimide nanofiber nonwovens. The mechanical properties of the prepared polyimide nanofibers are superior to similar products at home and abroad.

The person in charge of the Science and Technology Bureau of Nanchang High-tech Zone said that Jiangxi Xiancai now has the industrial production capacity of a single production line to produce more than 4,000 square meters of polyimide nanofiber nonwovens per day, and plans to reach an annual production of 200 million square meters within three years. Polyimide nanofiber battery separator has a construction goal of annual output value of more than 6 billion yuan.

The nanofibers produced by this major high-tech project have a particularly small diameter, about one thousandth the diameter of a human hair. They can be used to prepare excellent filter materials to filter out ultra-fine dust, bacteria, viruses, etc. for purification. Air, sewage treatment, exhaust gas purification, etc.; in terms of new energy, it can be used to manufacture lithium-ion batteries and supercapacitor diaphragms; carbonized nanofiber non-woven fabrics can be used as efficient electrode materials, and can also be used as a complete sail base in the aerospace industry material.
It is understood that traditional polymer nanofibers and non-woven fabrics generally have low strength and cannot be used as self-supporting materials in industry or daily life like coarse fibers, woven fabrics or non-woven fabrics. They can only be combined with other high-strength materials. The supporting materials are used closely, and the production efficiency is also particularly low. The R&D team chaired by Professor Hou Haoqing from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Jiangxi Normal University started with material synthesis. After nearly ten years of unremitting efforts, they mastered the process technology for preparing high-strength polymer nanofibers and developed a method for large-scale production of polymer nanofibers. The new equipment and process technology for weaving cloth have solved the problems of industrial production.
