Ministry of Commerce spokesperson Shu Jueting said at the press conference that since 2022, China’s foreign trade has withstood multiple pressures at home and abroad and has generally achieved stable operation. From January to May, imports and exports increased by 8.3% year-on-year in RMB terms, and it is expected to maintain high growth in June.
Shu Jueting said that judging from recent surveys of some places, industries and companies, the country’s foreign trade development will face increasing uncertainties and unstable factors in the second half of 2022, and the situation will remain complex and severe. From the perspective of external demand, affected by geopolitical conflicts and the accelerated tightening of monetary policies in some developed economies, global economic growth is likely to slow down, and the prospects for trade growth are not optimistic. Domestically, the foreign trade base has increased significantly in the second half of the year, and the comprehensive costs of enterprises are still high, and it is still difficult to receive orders and expand the market.
Shu Jueting pointed out that at the same time, there are still many favorable conditions for maintaining stability and improving the quality of foreign trade throughout 2022. First, China’s foreign trade industry has a solid foundation, and its long-term positive fundamentals have not changed. Second, various policies to stabilize foreign trade will continue to be implemented and bear fruit. All localities have further coordinated epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development, continuously optimized and refined policy measures, and stimulated the resilience and vitality of the foreign trade industry. Third, new energy and other industries have good growth momentum and are expected to continue to contribute incremental growth in the second half of 2022.
Shu Jueting said that in the next step, the Ministry of Commerce will work with various localities and relevant departments to implement policies and measures to stabilize foreign trade, including promoting smooth flow of foreign trade, increasing fiscal and taxation financial support, helping companies grab orders to expand markets, and stabilize the foreign trade industry. We will continue to make efforts in the supply chain and other aspects to continue to support enterprises in making full use of relevant policies and measures to help the majority of foreign trade enterprises develop stably and healthily. Specifically, the first is to help enterprises reduce comprehensive costs, make good use of export credit insurance tools, and improve the ability to receive orders and fulfill contracts; the second is to support enterprises to actively participate in various exhibitions, consolidate traditional markets and existing customers, and actively explore new markets; third It is to encourage enterprises to continuously improve their innovation capabilities, proactively adapt to changes in overseas consumer demand, and promote the quality and upgrading of foreign trade.
