1. Development status of textile industry
The year 2022 that just passed was extremely difficult and extraordinary. The external environment is turbulent, the COVID-19 epidemic has experienced ups and downs, the industry has experienced severe tests, and development has been under tremendous pressure. 1. Industry is an important force in stabilizing foreign trade and foreign exchange
In 2022, my country’s textile and apparel exports will reach a new high, reaching US$340.95 billion, a year-on-year increase of 2.5%. The increase in product prices plays an important role in this. Textile fabrics, yarns, etc. have strong international competitiveness. The steady growth of exports to countries and regions with rapidly developing garment industries such as Southeast Asia, South Asia, and America has become an important growth point. The export market is more diversified and the trade structure is more reasonable. In 2022, my country’s textile and apparel exports to ASEAN were US$58.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 14.8%. ASEAN became the industry’s largest export market for the first time. The ASEAN market contributes more than 50% to the industry’s export growth, driving RCEP’s export growth contribution to more than 60%. New foreign trade formats such as cross-border e-commerce and overseas warehouses have become important driving forces. SHEIN’s revenue in Brazil in 2022 will account for 50% of the local fashion e-commerce share; Lazada teamed up with Cainiao to launch a dedicated overseas line for the apparel industry to improve the efficiency of cross-border e-commerce in the industry.
2. The industry is an important force in ensuring people’s livelihood and consumption.
In 2022, the retail sales of clothing, shoes, hats, and knitted textiles by units above designated size nationwide will reach 1.3003 billion yuan; the national online retail sales of clothing products will increase by 3.5% year-on-year. The diverse ecology and low entry barriers give the industry huge employment capacity and space for innovation and entrepreneurship, stably driving the employment of more than 20 million people in the whole society. The industry plays a key role in stabilizing employment and protecting people’s livelihood.
3. Industry is an important force in enhancing development resilience
With the direction of independence, controllability, safety and reliability, the industry promotes foundation-building projects, consolidates manufacturing capabilities, and accelerates the formation of high-end, intelligent, and green industrial systems. High-performance fiber materials, bio-based fibers, etc. continue to develop. Focusing on lightweighting and new energy, the ecology of the “carbon fiber +” industry continues to improve. The application of intelligent manufacturing and service-oriented manufacturing has become more in-depth, and the metaverse and virtual humans have begun to be explored in the industry. Specialized and new enterprises are developing rapidly, and leading enterprises are becoming more intensive and internationalized. In the 2022 Fortune Global 500 and Forbes China’s Top 50 Innovative Companies, 6 and 2 textile companies were selected respectively. Guide textile and garment enterprises to settle in border (cross-border) economic cooperation zones and deepen industrial chain and supply chain cooperation with neighboring countries and regions.
