Ethylene glycol imports by country in 2021
From the perspective of import structure, my country’s main ethylene glycol import regions are Saudi Arabia 43%, Taiwan 13%, Canada 10.97% and Singapore 8.19%.
Among China’s major importing countries and regions, the Middle East has become a leading force in the global market by virtue of its resource advantage of cheap ethane. Saudi Arabia has the world’s largest ethylene glycol supplier Sabik, and its import share has remained stable at 40% in recent years. Around %, due to the reduction in local ethane supply this year due to production cuts, Saudi Arabia’s imports have shrunk. Then the second largest supplier, Dow Chemical, has its equipment mainly distributed in Canada, the United States, and Kuwait. These regions are also the main sources of my country’s imported ethylene glycol. Then the top ones are Japan and South Korea in Northeast Asia, and Taiwan, which has Formosa Plastics, and Singapore, which has Shell, have not seen any significant changes in their import volumes this year.
Statistics of ethylene glycol imports in 2021 by place of receipt and delivery
my country’s ethylene glycol imports are dominated by warehousing companies and polyester production companies. Warehousing companies mainly handle customs clearance for traders, so they have become the most important import unit. The largest import volume is Zhangjiagang Free Trade Zone Yangtze International Port Co., Ltd., which is the largest ethylene glycol storage company, followed by Jiangsu Yangtze Petrochemical Co., Ltd., Zhangjiagang Fubao Storage Co., Ltd. and other warehousing companies.
In 2021, my country’s ethylene glycol is mainly imported from Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. The import volume of these two provinces is more than 5.8748 million tons, accounting for 69% of the country’s share; followed by Shanghai, Beijing and other places.
Overall, the total import volume of ethylene glycol in 2021 was 8.4257 million tons, a decrease of 20.12% compared with the same period last year, and the import volume shrank significantly. This is because in February this year, North America was affected by the cold wave, and some equipment was overhauled. The supply was significantly reduced, and import resources continued to be tight. At the same time, foreign epidemics recurred, and the arrival of cargo ships at the port was slow, which seriously affected the import of ethylene glycol. However, with the restart of preliminary maintenance equipment in the United States and the commissioning of new equipment, imported resources are expected to increase.
