It is understood that the project was approved by the National College Student Innovation Training Program and won the first prize at the Hubei College Student Chemistry (Chemical Engineering) Academic Achievements Report hosted by the Hubei Provincial Society of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. Relevant papers were published in the Journal of Physical Chemistry and “The Journal of Physical Chemistry C”.

When Xu Feiyan was a sophomore, she participated in the “Runhe Project” college student extracurricular science and technology innovation team organized by the college, and has since formed an indissoluble bond with superhydrophobic copper surfaces. Under the guidance of the instructor, Xu Feiyan and her small team of four extensively collected relevant information, repeated experimental operations, made constant corrections, and overcame technical difficulties one after another, and finally developed a simple crystal face selective etching method.

The surface of superhydrophobic copper is similar to a lotus leaf. When water is dropped on it, the water droplets will fall off immediately. It is an important functional material. Research has found that it has great application value in many fields such as self-cleaning surfaces, oil-water separation, drag reduction, micro-fluid equipment, and anti-corrosion. “If we replace the tap water pipes we usually use with treated copper pipes, we can effectively reduce the resistance generated during the transportation of water and reduce energy consumption; the copper surface will have excellent Corrosion resistance can improve the service life of copper materials and reduce copper consumption. “Another example is that the oil-water separation properties of super-hydrophobic copper mesh can directly filter out the oil stains in the oil-water mixture and purify the water.” The next step is to study how to apply this technology to textile materials. If it can be realized, then in the future we can automatically wash the dirty clothes by soaking them in water and then taking them out, which saves water resources and can also avoid Environmental pollution.”

According to the instructor, in the past, the preparation of superhydrophobic copper surfaces was mainly divided into one-step method and step-by-step method. The former is made by soaking copper sheets in special chemicals. Although the operation is simple, it takes a long time; the latter is made by coating the copper surface with a special substance, which is short in time, but the surface coating is easy to fall off and has poor performance. Difference. Xu Feiyan’s team made the etching process of the copper surface controllable through selective etching of high-energy crystal planes. The copper surface obtained through this method has a polyhedral protrusion-like rough structure, and the surface of the copper sheet is uniformly etched, solving the above-mentioned problem. Two problems, with obvious novelty and operability, have huge market potential.
