Regarding the choice of outdoor sportswear, the majority of enthusiasts should not be careless. However, if you want to choose outdoor clothing that you like, there are many things you should pay attention to. First of all, you must understand the common fabrics of outdoor sports clothing.

1.mont-bell waterproof fabric three-level system

As the world’s leading manufacturer of waterproof jackets, mont-bell understands that the requirements for high-quality waterproof jackets are not as simple as “waterproof”. Different people in different situations will have different opinions on the breathability, weight, converted volume and price of the jacket. Due to different requirements, mont-bell uses three different waterproof fabrics for different purposes.

2.gore-tex

The highly praised gore-tex has very high performance in terms of waterproofing and breathability, so it is the choice for making top-notch jackets. After more than 20 years of development, mont-bell has become Japan’s largest gore-tex outdoor clothing manufacturer. Gore-tex itself is a very thin layer of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene film eptfe (expandedpoly-tetra-fluoro-ethylene), which is placed on the fabric in a sandwich manner. It is characterized by 1.4 billion pores per square inch. The size of each pore is only one-twentieth-thousandth of a water droplet, but it is 700 times larger than a water vapor molecule. Therefore, it only allows water vapor to pass through and does not allow water droplets to pass through. It is waterproof. The water pressure is as high as 45,000mm, and the air permeability is as high as 13,500g/m2/24hrs, so it has excellent waterproof and breathable functions. Also because the fabric used in mont-bell is lighter and more breathable than usual, its breathability is also higher than that of other companies’ products.

Another feature of mont-bell gore-tex jackets is that there are very few gore-tex marks on the clothes, because from the beginning, mont-bell has used the functions of gore-tex to make high-performance clothing, rather than using gore-tex. The fabric is a selling point, so the Gore-Tex mark will not be intentionally left on the clothes. Anything with p.t.f.e. on the material description is a Gore-Tex product.

3.dry-tec waterproof and breathable membrane

For those who require extreme portability, mont-bell has specially developed dry-tec tarpaulin. Its waterproofness is up to 30,000mm water pressure, which is similar to gore-tex. It is also breathable up to 6,000g/㎡/24hrs. degree, the weight is 1/3 lighter than gore-tex, and the converted volume is nearly half smaller. It is a new generation of super PU waterproof and breathable membrane independently developed by mont-bell. Its secret is a mixture of polyurethane (polyurethane) and ceramic (silicon carbon) technology, synthesized with a three-layer structure. The bottom layer is an extremely tough film that is used to bind the fabric and resist water pressure. The micropores are only 0.1mm in size. The center is a highly breathable layer with larger micropores (5-10mm), followed by a layer containing siliconized carbon. , thin and wear-resistant protective film with a micropore size of 5mm. This unique structure allows dry-tec to have extraordinary waterproof and breathable performance while being lighter in weight. Other advantages of dry-tec include: the folded volume is very small and it is very washable and wear-resistant, which is very suitable for the needs of active sports people. (1mm is 1/1000mm)

4.hydrobreeze-pxtm

In situations where practicality is required, montbell specially chooses hydrobreeze tarpaulin. It is a material developed by montbell for a new generation of practical all-weather jackets. It is made from montbell’s renowned hydropro waterproof membrane, but the waterproof membrane contains 0.1mm breathable micropores. Similarly, the size of the micropores can only allow sweat to pass through but can block water droplets. The waterproofness is up to 20,000mm water pressure, and the breathability is also good at 4000g/㎡/24hrs, making it more breathable than ordinary waterproof raincoats. Additionally, it is lighter weight and softer than other tarps. Hydrobreeze is very washable and can still maintain a water resistance of 15,000mm water pressure after 20 washes. The new generation of hydrobreeze-px is more wear-resistant and folding-resistant than ever before, making it the ideal choice for heavyweight windproof and rainproof jackets. (1mm is 1/1000mm).
